Dental Crowns
A crown may be recommended to restore a tooth that has extensive damage. A simple filling may not be able to provide the strength needed to properly restore a tooth. Generally, they are recommended when a tooth has an existing large restoration that has broken down, the tooth has fractured or it has significant decay. A crown provides strong protection to best allow for a damaged tooth to be maintained for a long period of time. Crowns are also a fantastic way to provide cosmetic improvement to a patient’s smile as well as correct bite issues when teeth have been significantly worn down. We typically place porcelain or tooth colored crowns, but occasionally use all gold crowns when it is in the best interests of our patients.
Dental Bridges
When a patient is missing one or more teeth, a permanent bridge can be an excellent solution. Studies have shown that the longer a person waits to replace a missing tooth, the probability of losing the remaining teeth increases by 30%, so it’s crucial that missing teeth be replaced as soon as possible. A permanent bridge replaces the missing teeth by anchoring the replacement teeth to two or more healthy teeth. A traditional bridge consists of one or more false teeth that are held in place by dental crowns attached to each of the remaining healthy teeth on each side. They are not removeable like a partial denture but are permanently cemented in place. They look, feel and function just like your natural teeth!
